Rogers Park
Economic
Shutdown

NOVEMBER 25 – DECEMBER 2, 2025

No

Why an Economic Shutdown?

Economic pressure is the only way to speak truth to power against a regime driven by billionaires, oligarchs, and led by an authoritarian wannabe dictator. We need to hit them where it hurts, in their profits.

An economic shutdown/general strike is a coordinated stoppage of work by employees across multiple sectors to protest economic issues, aiming to disrupt the economy until demands are met. This can include collective work and shopping stoppages, with the goal of achieving concessions from employers or the government, such as higher wages, better working conditions, or a reversal of policies.

What Does Rogers Park Want?

  • ICE out of Chicago
  • Big money out of politics
  • Universal food rights
  • Universal healthcare
  • Affordable housing
  • The repeal of Citizens United
  • The restoration of voting rights, reproductive rights, trans rights, and more
  • Realistic gun reform
  • Amnesty for undocumented people and asylum seekers
  • Real reform to the immigration process that provides a clear and easy pathway to citizenship
  • An end to systemic racism and white supremacy
  • For the Trump Administration and associated people to be held accountable for the crimes against humanity we have endured over the last year

Will we achieve all of this? No. But we will make a start.

What Should You Do?

So. Many. Things.

Community Support

Support small and local businesses (pay cash) for essential needs. Volunteer with mutual aid groups and help provide essentials like food, hygiene products, and clothing to neighbors in need.

Direct Action

Volunteer with ICE Watch or Protect Rogers Park to patrol for ICE in the neighborhood. Participate in political actions that match your personal ideology.

Build Solidarity

Host friends and neighbors for dinner, game nights, movie watch parties (time to pull out those DVDs and VHS tapes!). Attend a whistle kit packing event and socialize with your like-minded neighbors.

Make Your Voice Heard

Call your congressperson to talk about why we are shutting down the system. Call Senator Dick Durbin at (312) 353-4952 and leave a message.

Chicago Activities

Play outside with your children. Use free day passes to enjoy Chicago's beautiful museums. Walk your dog or the dog of a neighbor who doesn't feel safe leaving their home.

Essential

Deliver food boxes to neighbors who do not feel safe to or cannot leave their homes. Support those most vulnerable in our community.

Do Anything Except
Putting Money Into The Corporate System

Important Note About Work Walkouts

Only participate in a work walkout if you do not fear reprisal and/or can afford to. If you cannot walk out of work, slow down your work pace and make sure to explain to your management why you are doing this and what you are protesting.
